Exciting season ahead for Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe

April 14, 2019By Sheryl Bennett-Wilson

The acoustics are outstanding, the studio intimate and even the larger main stage offers an intimate and unique experience – it’s no wonder Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe is popular not only with performers, but with audiences. “We’ve really tried to provide a wide range of performances for all ages and tastes,” says Allan Sansom, Meridian Theatre’s artistic producer and Manager, “and I think people will be pleasantly surprised with the upcoming season’s offerings.” Along with some well-known favourites, Sansom promises many exciting new productions. “We’ve got a stage production coming from Quebec that is absolutely hilarious,” says Sansom. “It’s completely non-verbal and highly entertaining for its physical comedy. I think it will be a sellout.” Sansom also teases with the stage version of a familiar Netflix production. “You’ve seen this on Netflix,” says Sansom. “And I guarantee your kids are going to love it.” Another show under wraps for now is a dance show done with shadows. Sansom says it will be a treat for the whole family. He also warns that tickets for all these shows will go fast once details are released.

Favourites that are back for next season include Canto Sentimento String Quartet. “This string quartet accompanies the ‘Tea With’ afternoon that is hugely popular,” says Sansom. “We sell out every year and expect it to be popular again.” For musical lovers, Orpheus puts on three family-friendly musicals and there is an orchestra offering from Ottawa Pops that is a crowd-pleaser. “Ottawa Pops features many younger players,” says Sansom. “Their programs are always fun for the whole family.” The festive season will once again feature The Nutcracker, the Festival of Carols presented by the Salvation Army choir and a holiday concert by the Armed Forces Central Band. There’ll be plenty of music next season on the main stage and in the studio for all tastes. “We’re featuring talented local artists in a number of concerts in the studio, as well as at least one main stage show,” says Sansom. He also says to watch for a band you won’t want to miss. “If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, you’re going to love this act,” teases Sansom.

Front and Centre members of the Theatre will be able to buy tickets for these tantalizing acts on May 23. Regular ticket sales start on May 30. Check out www.meridiancentrepointe.com for ticket information or to buy a membership and get in on the exclusive members presale.
