The magic of dance

April 8, 2020By Sheryl Bennett-Wilson

Explore what’s new at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe

Dance into April and May with two sensational productions at Meridian Theatres @ Centrpointe. Audiences around the world have been mesmerized by “Catapult: The Magic of Shadow Dance.” This collaborative team was propelled to fame after their appearance on America’s Got Talent and haven’t stopped since. These incredible dancers perform a live ‘shadow’ performance that will take you on a dream-like journey as they use their bodies to create shapes and scenes. They literally launch ideas – and often themselves – at each other, which allows them expand and explore the stage space in a way you’ve never seen before. The show has been seen by millions and they continue to amaze at every performance. This is a must-see on Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m., another must-see dance production hits the stage of Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe. For the first time ever, the highly acclaimed Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will perform “Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet.” This celebrated dance company has been performing works exclusively created by Canadians and Canadian based choreographers. The company was formed in 1987 and has evolved into Canada’s largest dance institution. In the last 30 years, the company has produced 229 original creations that include eight full-length ballets. There are five works created especially for children.

“Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet” will appeal to all ages. This whimsical ballet follows the Anne story as she explores her new home on a farm in Avonlea. There is warmth and humour in this evocative production. And the exuberant Ballet Jörgen dancers show their enthusiasm for this beloved story. The original choreography is by Bengt Jörgen and based on “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical.” As one audience member in Halifax, Nova Scotia said of the production – “If Montgomery’s words could dance off the pages, this is exactly how they would look.”

On May 21, Meridian Theaters @ Centrepointe will announce their new season. There’ll be plenty of great family shows to look forward to in the coming months. So, stay tuned! Or become a Front + Centre member and enjoy special privileges and advance notice of presales – you’ll never miss a show and you’ll have access to the best seats in the house. This reminds me, did you know the federal government has programs to make investments into your kids’ registered education savings plan? (And they even have grants for some parents who can’t make their own investments). Just ask your bank. twitter.com/parentin…
