We all love the twinkling lights, the merry music and most of all, the gathering of friends and family this time of year.
While we are more than happy to show our appreciation for those who bring so much value to our lives, we don’t necessarily like cramming into shopping malls to frantically scoop up meaningless tokens that may end up in a white elephant exchange on Boxing Day.
With that, here’s our family’s latest creative endeavour – this time, to create personalized gifts that show thought and care – in rhyme. Special shout-out goes to Clement Clarke Moore. Enjoy!

‘Twas the night before Giftmas, at the dance school;
Not a present yet purchased, and I felt like a fool.
The cards had been crafted by my daughters with care,
But the gifts to affix them to? Simply not there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of choreographed routines danced in their heads.
The last class before Christmas?! My hands began to flap;
There was simply no time for a long winter’s nap!
I began to fret, and kicked up a clatter,
Hubby sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
“We need fab presents! We need them in a flash!
Do something quickly – away you must dash!”
Hubby got his car keys and went into the snow;
The headlights of his auto illuminated objects below…
A short wait later, my hubs did appear;
With 14 travel mugs, and a face full of cheer.
“We’re making personalized drinkware, and we’re making ’em quick;
You’ve gotta trust me – they’re gonna be sick!”
We fired up the Cricut (there was no time for games!)
And he whistled, and shouted, and typed up the names:
“Miss Kali, Miss Zoe, Miss Ashley, Miss Maya!
Pascale! Emmanuelle, Kiera, Sam and Svetlana!
Choose matching vinyl, then cut them out;
The results must make them scream and shout!
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly;
Hubby worked and worked, and boy, was he spry!
He affixed all the names to the mugs with ease,
He burnished and burnished. Oh, was I pleased –
For the thoughtful gifts the Cricut Maker’d create;
But the deadline, could he make it? We cannot be late!
Fortunately, the technology was easy to use;
There was absolutely zero chance he’d confuse.
A couple of hours later, he called for gift wrap;
And with the mugs done, my hands ceased to flap.
Fourteen gorgeous gifts for the girls to say thanks;
Receptacles for coffee – without breaking our banks!
When it comes to sweet prezzies, Cricut’s the best;
But hubby wasn’t done, he still couldn’t rest.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work;
Put the mugs into gift bags, and turned with a jerk.
He drove us to dance, dropped us off at the door,
And told the girls, “knock ’em dead on the floor.”
I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight –
“Happy Giftmas to all, and to all a good night!”
