January marks busy month at Dovercourt Recreation Centre

In the Ottawa neighbourhood of Westboro, you will find the Dovercourt Recreation Centre. Winter programs get underway at the beginning of the month. Activities and health are usually on the minds of people following the holidays. To that end, fitness classes are offered throughout the day, from early morning through the evening, and include standards like group fitness, aquafit, yoga, pilates, strength and spinning, to more unique programs like TRX, hula hooping, aerial yoga, exercise for chronic health conditions including Parkinson’s, stand up paddleboard in the pool, a full array of pre- and postnatal classes and more.

Winter swim lesson sessions get underway on February 2, offering private and group swim lessons and certification programs like first aid and CPR in our warm water leisure pool.

Our sports programs include Taekwondo and Karate, as well as climbing, basketball, indoor tennis, multisport for younger participants and more.

Canines have options too, with classes presented by Carol the dog trainer. Our dance school begins its winter session, with dance classes for toddlers to tweens, and culminates in our annual recital in June. Adults can get their groove on too, learning popular social dances like the New York hustle, country two-step and west coast swing with instructors from the Westie Underground – and no partner or experience is needed.

Creative types can try their hand at pottery, art classes, and private or group lessons in music on a wide variety of instruments. Dovercourt offers unique programs like musical theatre, family ukulele, Bluesfest community choir, rock university and jam night (19+yrs) through the Bluesfest School of Music and Art at Festival House on Churchill Ave.

Registration begins on January 2 for our legendary Summer Camps (and summer swim lessons), with camps for ages 4 to teen. Lunch and swim lessons options, plus drop-off and pick-up at our convenient central location on Dovercourt Avenue make summer a little easier for busy parents. Kids will enjoy a wide variety of camps including parkour, circus, skateboarding, scooter, whitewater rafting, overnight camps, Thrill and Chill series for 10- to 13-year-olds, and Leader and Counsellor-in-Training programs for kids who are ready to take the next step. Check out our Winter 2019 program guide and 2019 Summer Camp book for all the details. We look forward to seeing you!
